Trading Freedom For Safety Rarely Works Well
One of my all-time favorite movies is the remake of I, Robot -- starring Will Smith and Sonny the robot. Will Smith's character, Detective Spooner, is investigating the alleged suicide of his good friend Dr. Lanning, but believes this is actually a homicide apparently perpetrated by a robot, in particular Sonny. Very True
When nobody flies, the skies will finally be safe?!?

Well lets see the government buys things on the "lowest bidder" system but currently hammers are over $400.00 a shot. When I was in the Air Force we used the outdated system of write ups and if a page went missing out of the aircrafts book then we had to "remember" what was on it. I recall several times where I red X'd a aircraft and the page went missing allowing the aircraft to fly. As a crew chief there is always someone above you who over rides your decisions. What I think maybe a solution is a bond system for changes~upgrades to provide for damages, I know, I know this will not replace a pilots life but what needs to happen is maybe a third party system (engineering) who examines the fundimental changes and express the operational feasability of changes to engines and airframes to the FAA. Like a performace bond contractors put up when bidding on projects or aquire them. Some type of reimbursement for companies to recoup some of their cash outlay when upgrading aircraft or engines. I mean the IRS does this for casinos that lose money...LOL! Why not for this?
