Lufthansa to Continue Partnership with US Airways

German flag carrier Lufthansa announced plans to it to continue its long-time partnership with US Airways as well as its non-stop flight between Munich to Charlotte, North Carolina.

The airline, which first launched the Munich-Charlotte flight in 2004, currently operates the route with a three-class Airbus A340-600 between the two cities.  According to Lufthansa, it is the only airline to offer a first-class cabin on that route.

Lufthansa announced that it will continue to offer connections from Charlotte Douglas International Airport with its partner US Airways.  US Airways, which merged with American Airlines in 2013, was a member of Star Alliance until the end of March.  Lufthansa is a founding member of Star Alliance.  As part of the merger, US Airways left Star Alliance and joined oneworld, where American is a founding partner.

Passengers will also be able to connect from Charlotte on flights operated by United Airlines, Lufthansa’s joint-venture partner.  Lufthansa passengers traveling in first and business class will continue to have access to US Airways lounges in Charlotte.

The Charlotte-Munich flight is intended to connect the automotive and electronics industries in both regions.
