Beautiful aeroplane. First saw it up close at RAF Wroughton paying a "flying visit" in the 1960's.

As a child in I think 1952 saw the first prototype Vulcan when it flew at about 1000ft around Oldham Rochdale and Manchester having taken off from Woodford. To show the AVRO workforce what they had built.
A great leap as the Lancaster only entered service in ?1943 some 10 yrs earlier

Saw one fly at an airshow in California in the 70's. Absolutely amazing sound and experience.

@ Colin Seftel If I had to guess I would guess it is a corporate sponsorship by Airbus. Flying and maintaining a Vulcan is not cheap by any means.

I got to sit in this airplane when I was a child at a K.C. airshow. No James Bond, though! Great shot!!

Did this plane ever take off from de Havilland's in Hartfordshire? I'm sure my friend and I arrived there on our push bikes (circa 50s/60s), where we settled down on the end of a runway and saw it sit on its tail and CLIMB! All this before security was an issue.

I posted this on an earlier pix ..In 1957 I was a 19 yr. old USAF Air Traffic Control GCA operator stationed at RAF Manston (near Margate on the Kent coastline). During one of the my duty shifts I was the final approach controller when a RAF Vulcan declared a request for an emergency GCA final landing. While I was a "little" bit nervous the pilot & I executed a non-eventful successful approach upon completion of which the RAF pilot sent me a "GOOD SHOW MATE" radio sign off transmission. Having the Vulcan on the flight line for a few days for correction of a minor defect was quite the show along side the USAF F-84s normally based there.

Amazing Aeroplane !! Sent shivers down my spine to hear those engines. What power !! If I am correct, I think the vulcan was used to test the fuel tanks on Concode & flew many a time from Fairford. Lucky Doncaster where she will be resting.

I wonder why it has delta wings, usually used on supersonic planes, while it is subsonic.

That's beautiful. Do they still show these at the airshows in Britain. I'm hoping to get back and see one soon.
