McDonnell Douglas DC-10 (N68049)
Departing KMEM about four hours late yesterday meant that FDX's "Dusty" (N68049) arrived here in balmy Reno at midmorning. While a large part of the US was either buried deep under snow, frozen solid under ice, or both, I was wearing a short sleeve shirt in the sun in 70 degree temperatures while standing about 2/3rds of the way down runway 16L to capture this long-range shot of Dusty's left mains making first contact with the concrete. I can't get cool shots of aircraft landing or taxiing in frigid surroundings like some of FA's east coast photogs are snapping right now, but I'll be honest ... after seeing what y'all are dealing with there, I'm OK with being right here and clicking pics like this one.

Nice.
Karl, as with your previous comment under one other of my photos, your comment here is again much appreciated. Thank you. And I woke up this morning to discover that many other FA viewers have given this shot a high rating. Thank You to all of you, also.
Hi Gary , congrats on your photo . I think the action shot was out standing .
Many Thanx, Doug. I appreciate your compli.
And I was wondering ... About a year back, you posted a shot of a Navy Blue Angel Tiger out to pasture. And in the background, there is a Martin 404 in Pacific Airlines paint. Where was that superb snap taken? I'd truly love to get up close to that old 4-0-4.

Very nice shot. Wish aircraft like this was still part of the commercial world (US Airlines).
The dc-10.. Such a very nice aircraft to fly. Very sensitive controls. Almost perfect for such a large aircraft...smooth flight when at cruising altitudes.
As do I, Peter. I miss seeing the liveries of the US pax airlines on MD and Lockheed tribirds. And I deeply miss Boeing's 727s, also.
You piloted them, Mike H.? I envy you; I never even had the pleasure of being IN one. In my days, I've been a passenger on 727s and L-1011s and also on a couple other tail-mounts (BAC-111s and Caravelles) but I have never stepped foot in a DC-10, even just to look around. Not that long ago, I approached a FDX ramper and asked if I could be allowed to peek inside and snap a couple pics, but I was denied permission.

Great touchdown shot! Seen in Daily Newsletter!
Don't need "frigid surroundings" when you can get great shots like this. Nice Job!
Dwight & Mark C; Thanks to both of you for your comments.
( Mark .. Your pictures show you do get around the country (re: ISM and SNA, etc). If you ever find yourself heading for RNO, please let me know via [email protected]. I'd truly enjoy meeting you. )
